The Ashoka Cook School in Linwood is popular with curry fans who want to learn how to create an Indian feast at home. However, you don’t need to don an apron to enjoy the authentic dishes cooked by the expert chefs here. The Ashoka Cook School Restaurant offers pre-theatre, a la carte and takeaway menus as well as a shop selling spices, cookbooks and vouchers for the cookery classes.
The kitchen at Ashoka Cook School Restaurant specialises in home-style Indian cooking; sometimes, as in the haggis pakora, with a cheeky Scottish touch. Popular starters include the chickpea poori and the chicken pakora although many diners like the variety of the Punjab trio combining veg pakora, spiced and griddled white fish and the seekh kebab.
From the main courses, the staff recommend the lamb and green chilli although lamb lovers may also want to take a look at the karahi lamb Bhoona – tender lamb cooked in caramelised green pepper, onion, garlic and ginger, all finished with fenugreek and coriander. Other favourites include the tandoori mixed grill, chicken tikka sizzler and Bengali king prawns marinaded in spiced yoghurt and cooked in the tandoor oven.
The Ashoka Cook School is in Phoenix Leisure Park, Linwood, by Paisley. It is easily accessible via the A737 and has plentiful on-site parking. Local bus services run along the nearby Barskiven and Linwood roads.
