Despite the restaurant being very busy with people enjoying Christmas lunch with friends and family the food and service we received were fantastic.
Everyone at my table thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to coming back.
Well done to all the hardworking staff.

Originally a tram station and dating back to 1915, Battlefield Rest is now a popular, family-run Italian restaurant on Battlefield Road. A B-listed building on a traffic island, its unique looks and interior have long endeared it to local residents and it is fair to say that it is something of a local landmark. Well loved, it is the sort of welcoming and familiar Italian bistro that every neighbourhood should have.
The menus at Battlefield Rest are a comforting mix of Italian recipes and Scottish produce. From the lunch and pre-theatre menus to the a la carte, there is a wide range of classic Italian dishes along with lots of Caledonian flourishes. Typical examples include the haggis cannelloni, the Arbroath smokie crepe and the salad made with Stornoway black pudding.
More traditional Italian options include the selection of bruschetta, the pizza, risotto, the pork Milanese and pasta such as the spaghetti carbonara, lasagne and the nettle papardelle with asparagus. Seafood choices include hake on a squid ink linguine and a hearty stew made with mussels, salmon, cod calamari and clams.
Battlefield Rest is on Battlefield Road in Glasgow’s Southside. Mount Florida is the nearest train station and there is limited on-street parking. Local attractions include Hampden Park and Queen’s Park.
