  The food at Taisteal is uniformly excellent, and our second visit did not disappoint as we tried some new offerings. The presentation is inventive and eclectic, but not at the expense of the tasty morsels that satisfy the palate. The early evening market menu offered through 5pm has ample choices and is remarkably good value. The wine is very good quality, if on the rather expensive side by comparison with the food. All in all an excellent meal, with efficient and friendly service making for a very pleasant evening out with friends and a delightful journey through some delicious flavours and textures. Not to be missed!

Contemporary Scottish restaurant in Stockbridge

Meaning travel or journey in Gaelic, Taisteal is a contemporary Scottish restaurant on Raeburn Place in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge neighbourhood. As well as extensive stints in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants, the Chef Proprietor has travelled widely. He brings all of these experiences to bear on the menu at Taisteal. The restaurant launched at the start of 2017 with the aim of delivering elements of fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere.

Scottish produce, global influences

The best Scottish produce, prepared using techniques, recipes and flavours from around the world are at the heart of Taisteal. The menu changes regularly but typical starters might be the Singapore squid with squid ink risotto or the sweet and sour sweetbreads. Main courses might be Gressingham duck breast cooked with maple and five spice or the cod and Shetland mussels with a curried cauliflower purée, almonds, saffron and vanilla gnocchi. Vegetarian dishes includes options such as roast lotus root stuffed with wild mushrooms, edamame beans, pistachio and basil pesto.

As well as a handsome wine list, there is a selection of classic and contemporary cocktails.

Edinburgh transport links

Taisteal is situated on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge and is connected to the city centre by several bus routes. It is around twenty minutes on foot from both Haymarket Station and Edinburgh’s theatre hub just off Lothian Road. The nearest off-street parking is at Castle Terrace, also about twenty minutes walk away, although there may be some free parking available after 5.30pm close to the restaurant in Stockbridge.
