Royal Gurkha is a casual and unpretentious dining spot on Newington Road in Edinburgh.
The menu offers up a range of Indian and Nepalese curry house favourites, as well as sizzling tandoori dishes and traditional mains.
At Royal Gurkha, diners can tuck into typical Scottish crowd-pleasers such as korma, bhuna, saag, karahi, rogan josh, jalfrezi, balti and vindaloo.
Most of the curries come with a choice of vegetables, paneer, chicken, lamb or prawns. You can also try a tempting range of variations on the much-loved butter chicken, including lamb, prawn or paneer. Or for something a little bit different, why not sample the garlic chilli fish curry or lamb dopiaza cooked two ways in the chef’s special sauce?
If smoky tandoori is more to your taste, then take your pick from dishes like royal lamb chops, chicken tikka or king prawns marinated in fresh garlic ginger. Vegetarians needn’t miss out on grilled delights either as a tasty paneer tikki is available.
Other veggie dishes include daal makhani, chana masala and aloo gobhi.
The restaurant is in the leafy residential area of Newington, not far from The Meadows, Holyrood Park and University of Edinburgh.
The city centre and Waverley Station are around a five-minute cab journey away.
