Recommended by a friend and it certainly dis not disappoint. From initial greeting, to special drinks, to food and service, everything was just excellent. Steven made the most wonderful whiskey drink that just hit the spot on a wet and miserable day. Jade provided excellent and friendly service providing good advice on 'extras' and wine. The meal was just delicious. Wonderful ambience, cosy and comfortable Just loved absolutely everything about it :)

Monteiths is a boutique cocktail bar and restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Just off the Royal Mile, it is discreetly tucked away at the end of an inviting, sparkling terrace. The interior is a neat blend of classic British design, hunting lodge chic and bold, modern flourishes. Well made drinks, handsome surroundings and beautifully cooked, local ingredients all make for a formula that encourages guests to come for cocktails, lunch or dinner and linger for drinks afterwards.
The kitchen at Monteiths uses top quality, locally sourced ingredients to create carefully prepared and beautifully presented dishes for their seasonal menus. On both the evening a la carte and lunch menus, well balanced flavours are key to the dishes. Fresh seafood and meat are central to the offering and the menus often feature mussels, oysters, chicken, venison, lamb and beef dishes.
Popular dishes on the lunch menu include lobster omelette, chicken Caesar salad, the steak burger and, of course, the fish and chips. The a la carte menu offers more complex dishes such as monkfish with cauliflower, bacon and black pudding or the venison loin with a pistachio crust, grilled leek and smoked beetroot. The steak selection is also popular.
A typical dessert might be the rhubarb fool, the apple pear and date crumble or perhaps a liquid dessert like the rum ‘n’ raisin Old Fashioned.
Monteiths is on the High Street on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Well located for attractions such as Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood, it is a five minute walk from Waverley train station. There is limited on-street parking and a pay car park on New Street.
