Madogs is a perennially popular basement cocktail bar and grill in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town that has been attracting drinkers and diners for decades. Evenings are buzzing, with a mixed crowd of locals and tourists enjoying a wide selection of cocktails, steaks from the grill and unpretentious American diner-style food.
The Madogs menu looks west, ticking off all the American classics. Steaks are a highlight and there are plentiful variations on the traditional burger theme, with skinny versions, chargrilled marinated chicken burgers and a veggie barbecue bean burger with roast pepper, sweet potato and soya bean, coated in basil and nut crumb.
The menu also offers diner classics like baby back ribs, mac ‘n’ cheese and chicken Caesar salad, along with Stateside desserts such as New York cheesecake. Sharing plates include nachos and the Mediterranean platter. The cocktail list is extensive and popular.
Madogs has a city centre location on George Street in Edinburgh’s New Town. It is a minute’s walk from the tram line and the bus stops on Princes Street. Waverley station is a ten minute walk away. Princes Street Gardens is five minutes on foot and the cinemas and theatres of Lothian Road are around 20 minutes walk from the restaurant. There is pay parking nearby on Castle Terrace.
