Great food - not great service

The restaurant did not have details of our booking although I had the confirmation email from 5pm - this was eventually resolved. At the restaurant, the staff were very pleasant however it was obvious that there was a lack of staff. We had also prepaid for a cocktail and placed the order prior to our main course being served. After 20 mins the waitress advised that the cocktail my wife ordered wasn't available due to lack of ingredients so she ordered another. Around 10 mins later my cocktail arrived however there was no sign of my wife's. After another 40 mins (and chasing the staff up twice) my wife's drink finally arrived. The two courses took over 2.5hrs and we weren't offered a look at the dessert menu. Staff acknowledged that the service was poor and offered to take the price of cocktails off the bill - however we'd already paid for them. The food itself was great and the offer was good value for money however due to the service being so poor it took away from the experience - I do stress that the staff were very pleasant and were very busy however the issue was the distinct lack of them.

Excellent food and service

First time at Chez Mal in Dundee The food was delicious, both courses were excellent. Autumn, our waitress has a lovely personality and couldn't do enough for us. She is a great ambassador for Chez Mal. We're frequent customers at Chez Mal in Glasgow and we're delighted to say that Dundee provided the same fantastic quality and service as we expected.

Lovely restaurant

Had very nice evening on Friday at Chez Mal, staff were very friendly and efficient. Decor is lovely, nice ambience with comfortable chairs which makes a difference! Food was nice. Prawn starter was especially tasty. Will definitely return when I'm in Dundee.
