My £12.95 for 2 courses was exceptionally good, with a minor problem of three of the starter dishes being not available!
A la carte Pollo Milanaise was also good, if poorly seasoned. It was however a good portion, nice salad on side, and well presented. I would debate cooking the chicken deep fried as here preferring it to be shallow fried

Riva Restaurants’ Bar Luca brings traditional Italian cuisine with a modern twist to downtown Kilmarnock. The dishes are freshly-made on the premises, with a changing list of daily specials to keep things interesting. Open from breakfast until late, it’s a family-friendly spot with kids’ £1 deals Sunday-Thursday. Grown-ups will find the chic cocktail bar is a great place for an aperitif or post-meal digestif.
The Bar Luca menu features plenty of familiar Italian classics alongside some creative and inventive specials. Pastas feature the comforting familiarity of arrabbiatta, carbonara and Bolognese, but also find room for dishes like the linguine gamberoni e sardo with king prawns and spicy Sardinian sausage.
Scottish ingredients are not overlooked Starters include Shetland blue shell mussels prepared with a choice of sauces. Grill dishes highlight some authentic fish specials, including the branzino all griglia, a sea bass fillet with pine nut and walnut noisette.
The dessert list delivers favourites like gelato and tiramisu, alongside more contemporary creations such as the elderflower panna cotta with amarena cherries and amaretti biscuits.
Bar Luca is located on Bank Street in the centre of Kilmarnock, a short walk from the town’s Palace Theatre. Kilmarnock train station is about ten minutes away on foot. The nearest bus stop is on Nelson Street, a couple of minutes away, with nine local services.
On street parking close to Bar Luca is limited. The East George Street car park on Portland Street near the station, is the most convenient for the restaurant.
