About the Kirkhouse Inn

In the 400 or so years since it was first built, the Kirkhouse Inn has been used as everything from a stable to a schoolhouse. Nestled in the peaceful parish of Strathblane, it boasts the Campsie Hills as a backdrop. The inn’s owners reckon that over the years, it has been home to hidden fortunes, royal secrets and even a ghost. These days, guests can look forward to a modern inn with comfortable rooms, great food and a warm welcome.

This family-run inn is easy to reach, as it is just half an hour from Glasgow and 90 minutes from Edinburgh. Guests can make the most of its airy and spacious restaurant, tartan-strewn bar and beer garden. Free onsite parking is also available.

Each of the inn’s 15 Guest rooms is decorated in a cheerful Scottish style with splashes of tartan.

All include an ensuite bathroom, free WiFi, TV with Freeview, phone, tea & coffee making facilities and a hairdryer. An iron and ironing board are available on request.

Hearty Scottish and international cuisine

As mentioned, the Kirkhouse Inn is known for its tasty food. Menus change regularly, but typical starters might be the Scottish mussels in a white wine garlic sauce or the prawn Marie Rose with crusty brown bread.

Popular main courses include beef stroganoff and, of course, traditional fish & chips featuring beer-battered haddock. The chef’s signature dish is venison loin from the Luss Estate. It is served with black pudding, crushed potatoes and French beans with a wild berry & Drambuie jus.

Vegetarian choices includes roasted Thai vegetable curry, mac ‘n’ cheese and vegetable fajitas.

The dessert section showcases homestyle treats such as the white chocolate cheesecake and the meringue sundae, as well as as a bakery table filled with goodies.

Out & about

From whisky tours at the nearby Glengoyne distillery to rugged hikes around Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, the Kirkhouse Inn is a great base for a short break. Local activities include mountain biking, horse riding, golf and even falconry. Both the famous West Highland Way and John Muir Way hiking routes run by Strathblane, making the inn popular with walkers.

The shops and attractions of Stirling, including the castle, Abbey Craig and Wallace monument, are all a convenient drive away.
