Description

The Dunstane Houses comprise two stunning Victorian properties at 4 West Coates and across the road on Hampton Terrace in Edinburgh’s leafy West End.

Built in the 1860s, these historic buildings form two halves of a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel: a relaxing sanctuary that blends heritage tweeds, contemporary art and seductive luxury touches such as roll top copper baths.

The properties had a multi-million pound renovation in 2017 and they are absolutely stunning.

Olive magazine wrote that The Dunstane Houses was ‘one of Edinburgh’s best boutique hotels’ while The Sunday Times Travel Magazine described The Dunstane Houses as having ‘a country-house feel hotel in the heart of a bucket-list city’.

Guests can look forward to evocative interiors inspired by the neoclassical design of Old Town Edinburgh, the Dunstane Houses’ rich history, and the owners’ Orcadian roots.
Whether you are in Edinburgh for work or play, The Dunstane Houses offer luxury, character and comfort. They are also perfect for a romantic getaway.

Unique rooms

Ranging from Classic Wee Singles to sumptuous suites with four poster beds and Persian rugs, The Dunstane Houses have 35 rooms between the two properties. They are all individually styled but common features include 300-threadcount Egyptian cotton bed linen; large flat screen Samsung smart TVs and free parking and high-speed WiFi.

Of course, they are all ensuite with a bath or shower. Or, in the case of the Dunstane Suite, a roll-top copper bath in the bay window.

No two rooms are the same but standout features that you might find in your room include Zoffany and Harlequin wallpaper, Chesterfield sofas and vintage telephones.

Eating and drinking

Whether you’re looking for a light bite or full meal; a full Scottish breakfast to set you up for the day or afternoon tea while you relax with the papers, the Ba’ Bar is your first port of call.

Located in Dunstane House, this elegantly laid-back lounge and bar offers all-day dining and a seasonally changing menu of modern Scottish dishes. From hand-dived Orkney scallops to haggis bon bons, Scottish produce is prominent throughout.

The Ba’ Bar also has one of the widest selections of premium craft spirits in Edinburgh.

The vintage whisky cabinet is a connoisseur’s treasure trove of rare and vintage single malts and blends. The selection of artisan gins means you could stay for a week and never have the same G&T twice.

If you really want to explore the bar’s riches, book in for one of the hotel’s whisky and gin tastings.

See and do

The Dunstane Houses are in Edinburgh’s West End, a five minute walk from both Haymarket train station in one direction and Murrayfield Stadium in the other.

The city centre is a ten minute walk while Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile can be reached with a brisk twenty minute stroll.
